C’mon, summer. Just a little closer.

07Jun09

Well, it’s that time of the year. I don’t mean exams and stress and whatnot (although that’s certainly part of it). No, I mean it’s the time of year where I get really, really desperate for clothes. And I do mean desperate, like throw yourself at that weird guy with greasy hair who sits in the back of the classroom and draws on his arms with highlighter, which is strange but prom’s two days away so you better hustle desperate. Everything in my closet feels like something I wore two days ago. None of it looks good so I start mixing and matching like crazy, trying to throw together an outfit that by some miracle looks socially acceptable. I dig out all that crap grandma got me for Christmas two years ago. Hey, maybe now it’ll fit. Maybe it somehow went from undesirably and embarrassingly blacklisted to something resembling chic.

Now I’m going through all that stuff my neighbor Liana sent over last time. She does this about four times a year, and all her cast-offs in my eyes are like something crafted from heaven. I mean, it’s always been that way. She’s older. Her clothes are undeniably better than mine.

I’m sitting here going, Green striped tube top with black jeans? Gold ballet slippers? Layered turquoise skirt? Like stuff you wouldn’t be caught dead wearing out in public starts looking really good when it’s the end of the year and you need clothes and you’re out of money.

Anyway, I should be studying for exams. Damn you, chemistry!
